Board of Directors
Jonathan Baynham joined the HandsOn board in 2014, he currently serves as the chairman of the board. Jonathan works at the Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation and Manages their Service Learning and STEM programs. He has a Bachelor's degree from Spring Hill College and a Master's from Vanderbilt University. Jonathan loves working with HandsOn's fantastic staff and taking a small part in the huge impact we have on the city of New Orleans!
Cheryn Robles, APR was elected to serve on the board in 2015. Cheryn currently works as the Community Outreach Manager for the City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works. She is responsible for developing, executing and managing the internal and external communications and outreach efforts for the Department of Public Works. She received a Bachelor's of Arts degree from Loyola University New Orleans and a Masters in Environmental Management from Duke University. Cheryn most enjoys seeing the incremental and substantive improvements HandsOn makes during at Hands At Work events at schools and community centers and working with volunteers.
Ryan Caruso was elected to serve on the board in 2015. Ryan currently works as the Controller at Chateau de Notre Dame and is mainly responsible for assisting the chief financial officer with the month and year-end close of the organization’s financial statements. His duties also include being the contact person for internal and external audits, documenting the organization’s accounting policies and procedures, and supervising accounting staff. Prior to his position at Chateau, Ryan worked in public accounting as an auditor for 11 years specializing audits of nonprofit and healthcare organizations. Ryan received a BS in Accounting and a BS in Business Administration with a minor in Management from the University of New Orleans. What Ryan enjoys most about serving the organization is volunteering for service projects, meeting new people, and seeing the joy that HandsOn delivers to the community.
Brittany Mendoza was elected to serve on the board in 2015. Brittany currently works as a Senior Auditor at LaPorte CPAs & Business Advisors. Her client base includes Non-Profits, Foundations, For-Profits, Hospitals, and School Boards. She also works heavily on Employee Benefit Plan audits and Single Audits of federal awards. Brittany is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and received her Masters Degree and undergraduate degree in Accounting from the University of New Orleans (UNO). Being born and raised in New Orleans, Brittany enjoys being part of Hands On because of how much they give back to and impact the community both in and around New Orleans.
Kaki Johnson was elected to serve on the board in 2017. Kaki currently works as an Associate Attorney at Fishman Haygood LLP in the firm's litigation section. Kaki graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University New Orleans and received her law degree magna cum laude from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2015. Kaki enjoys serving on the Board of Directors for HandsOn New Orleans because she is constantly amazed by the visible impact the organization has on the New Orleans community and the surrounding region.
Kate Uhle was elected to serve on the board in 2017. She currently works as the Communications Director at Ursuline Academy where she handles all marketing and communications, as well as public relations and social media. Kate has a B.A. in Advertising from the University of Southern Mississippi and a M.A. in Advertising from the University of Texas. She loves serving with HandsOn because it has given her so many diverse opportunities to participate in real volunteer work in her community.
Ron Marlow was elected to serve on the board in 2017. Ron currently works as the IT Consultant at Cogent Communications and is responsible for Acquire Net-Centric clients/development in the North American market. Ron received BS degrees from University of Tennessee. Ron believes that it is important for our future generations, that we play a key role in a non-profit organization.
Gemma R. Birnbaum was elected to serve on the board in 2017. She currently works as the Director of the WWII Media and Education Center at The National WWII Museum and is responsible for media production, distance learning, and digital intellectual property management. Gemma received her BA from New York University and MA from Tulane University. What she enjoys most about Hands on New Orleans are the opportunities to interact with volunteers who are dedicated to helping so many important organizations in New Orleans succeed.
