HandsOn is awarded the "Whole Child Award" from New Orleans College Prep

314 volunteers. 11 work days. 1 big transformation to Hoffman Early Learning Center. Since January, HandsOn has created a vibrant and educational outdoor space envisioned by teachers, parents, and students themselves. Although we couldn’t grant one wish made by a 4 year old student- a unicorn stable- we have been able to add a number of unique and playful installments. With the help of volunteers, we’ve built “stump mountain” made from old tree stumps of various sizes, a kid-size outdoor kitchen with four accompanying garden beds for fruits and veggies, a butterfly attracting meditation path, eight outdoor chalkboards for learning, two collapsible sand boxes, and lastly, our greatest and most challenging addition- an octagonal stage surrounding a large oak tree with three sides of stadium seating.

We have loved every minute of working with Hoffman’s compassionate staff, especially Eboni Walker, Hoffman’s Executive Director. Last week, New Orleans College Prep, which operates Hoffman along with two elementary schools and a high school, had its “Breakfast of Champions” award ceremony. We were honored to receive the “Whole Child Award” for our work at Hoffman. We couldn’t be more appreciative and grateful for this special award presented by Eboni herself.
