Volunteer Leader Program

The HandsOn New Orleans Volunteer Leader program matches local volunteers to ongoing community service projects. HandsOn New Orleans partners with community organizations throughout the region to identify their most pressing needs and create projects to address these needs. Volunteer Leaders are then matched to a project based on interest and availability, and act as the leader for the project.

Since the program's inception in 2008, HandsOn New Orleans has trained over 200 Volunteer Leaders, who have gone on to lead over 3,600 volunteers in service projects throughout the Greater New Orleans Area.

Information for Individuals

The Volunteer Leader program enables individuals to give back to their own communities, while gaining valuable leadership experience and professional skills specific to their goals and interests.

Volunteer Leaders are local community members who make a commitment to help manage a volunteer project. These individuals help community organizations mobilize thousands of volunteers every year, and address any number of issues including homelessness, hunger, animal rescue, disaster recovery, environmental protection and more.

The time requirement for Volunteer Leaders is very flexible. Individuals can get involved once a week, once a month, or a few times a year!

For more information about becoming a Volunteer Leader, please review our Volunteer Leader Role Description and FAQ sheet. Interested individuals may apply by sending a letter of interest and resume to Peyton Juneau at pjuneau@handsonneworleans.org.

Information for Organizations

One of the primary goals of the Volunteer Leader Program is to provide capacity for non-profit agencies and neighborhood organizations. HandsOn New Orleans is looking to partner with local non-profit organizations to lead projects in the Greater New Orleans area. HandsOn New Orleans will work with your agency to identify your volunteer needs. From there we will set a regular, recurring project date. We will then recruit volunteers and provide leadership for the project.

Each project will be led by a HandsOn Volunteer Leader who will be a consistent presence at the project site. Your agency will only need to train and orient your HandsOn Volunteer Leader. Once they are familiar with your organization, they can provide information about your agency's projects and programs to each volunteer.

For more information about becoming one of our partners and working with a Volunteer Leader, please review our Potential Partner FAQ Sheet.

Every organization interested in joining this program is also required to attend a Non-Profit Orientation, held every Wednesday at 3 pm. To RSVP for one of our Orientations, please contact Chris Cameron at ccameron@handsonneworleans.org or call (504)-609-2525.
