Volunteer Bunkhouse

As part of its mission to transform communities through volunteer service, HandsOn New Orleans operates a Volunteer Bunkhouse on Banks Street for visiting volunteers.

We strive to create the most comfortable and welcoming volunteer housing opportunity in the city. Our facility, located in a large, turn of the century, Mid-City home and split between two floors, is a communal living environment capable of housing up to 40 volunteers at a time. We provide supplies for volunteers to make breakfast and lunch, and have full kitchen facilities for groups to make their own dinner.

Volunteers are asked to sign up for house duties to help maintain the facility during their stay. As part of the volunteer experience, we also hold regular community meetings which offer volunteers opportunities to reflect on their day’s work and meet other volunteers from around the country and even the world.

Our bunk house is a communal living experience. Volunteers will share rooms; sleep on bunk beds; share common areas; prepare their own meals; and help with upkeep. We have 2 large living rooms, a media/resource room, 2 full kitchens, 3 bathrooms, and free wireless internetfor volunteers to use at any time. Our 40 bunks are split into over 2 floors into 5 rooms, each room with 8 - 10 beds.

Costs:

There is a $30/night per volunteer housing fee to help ensure the sustainability of HandsOn New Orleans' programs. Space in the house is not guaranteed until we receive your full payment for your intended duration of stay. Checks/money orders are payable to HandsOn New Orleans. Credit card payments are accepted via the HandsOn New Orleans website's 'Donate' page. Note: All credit card payments have an additional 4% fee.

It is the responsibility of each volunteer to secure transportation arrangements for the duration of their stay with HandsOn New Orleans. We are unable to provide transportation for volunteers to/from the airport, project sites, etc.

The House is open to all who come to volunteer in our city, regardless of the project they are working on. To schedule a stay with HandsOn New Orleans, send an email to housing@handsonneworleans.org or call 504.483.7041 ext. 104.
