Hands@Work can customize a variety of projects that are tailored to your desired impact and current community needs.

See What Is Possible

Projects@Schools

Hurricane Katrina devastated the already fractured New Orleans Public School System. Assisting these schools is fundamental in helping to rebuild and improve the city. Tasks include:

  • Painting (interior, exterior, and murals);
  • Landscaping (building planter boxes, debris removal, pruning, and laying sod);
  • Room renovations;
  • Building bookshelves; and/or
  • Reorganizing the library.

Projects@Parks

Park beautification projects can help rejuvenate abandoned and despondent family neighborhoods. Tasks include:

  • Clearing debris;
  • Cutting grass;
  • Pruning;
  • Planting; and
  • Light construction (building benches or planter boxes).

Projects@Homes

In partnership with various community organizations, we can develop home renovation projects, which vary according to the needs of the homeowner. Projects include homes in our 5 focus neighborhoods; Gentilly, Central City, Martin Luther King Blvd/Oretha Castle Haley, St. Roch, and Hoffman Triangle.

Projects@Nonprofits

We believe in supporting other local nonprofits through service. Smaller groups of up to 20 volunteers can be assigned to help at a variety of nonprofits. Tasks include:

  • Working at the local animal shelter;
  • Sorting food at food banks;
  • Working in parks; or
  • Providing companionship to the elderly and sick.

Projects@Your Location

We bring the service to you at an office, hotel, or convention center so that volunteers can still help without leaving their site. Tasks include:

  • Making school supply kits for needy students;
  • Making hygiene kits for homeless shelters;
  • Building bookshelves for daycare centers and schools; or
  • Constructing mailboxes or house numbers for residents in need.
