Program Overview
Hands On New Orleans (HONO) is a non-profit organization that mobilizes volunteers in an effort to re-build and improve the city. Long-term volunteers gain significant leadership experience at HONO. They leave feeling passionate about our cause and empowered as individuals. With our formalized Volunteer Leader Program, we provide volunteers with the tools and education they need to harness that energy and spirit for change. Our hope is that every volunteer who goes through our program will return to their own community and their own causes – equipped to lead others in bringing about significant changes through volunteerism. We want to be a place that not only funnels
passionate energy into the rebuilding of our
city, but every few months, sends leaders back to their respective homes.
Our Goal
Volunteer Leaders at Hands On New Orleans are crucial to our operations. They act as project managers and planners, as well as on-site supervisors for all of our projects. They lead teams out in the field: rebuilding homes, clearing lots, building playgrounds, mentoring youth, and even coordinating large-scale service days. Likewise, they are the leaders of our volunteer community back at base. They lead community meetings, help to enforce community rules, and help to keep our bunkhouse clean through daily chores.
While our Volunteer Leaders are already gaining significant leadership experience in the field, we hope that through the service-learning and training components of our Volunteer Leader Program, we can better equip them to utilize those skills in different aspects of service.
